Rochon Polarizer

Specifications

Similar to a Wollaston polarizer, it splits the incident beam into an ordinary ray and an extraordinary ray. However, the extraordinary ray transmits straight through, while the ordinary ray transmits at a certain deviation angle.
A Rochon polarizer consists of two prisms of birefringent material optically contacted together. At the ordinary refractive index, the ordinary beam and extraordinary beam propagate collinearly along the optical axis in the first prism. When the ordinary beam enters the second prism, it has the same refractive index and continues unchanged. The refraction angle further increases at the exit surface between the birefringent material and air. Any separation angle can be designed for specific wavelengths as required.
